One of the most mesmerizing pictures we all
have in mind is the suggestive patterns of a
fire, campsites or fireplaces. I tried to
obtain this same effect with the FLAMP.
The glass portions of the lamp are obtained
by modelling Flexiglass, a new patented
method for glass shaping of my own invention.
Firstly, the innovation brought by products
like FLAMP (made in Flexiglass), is that no
heat is required. This allows literally
anyone with a workshop to produce articles
in Flexiglass.
Also, the unique production of Flexiglass
creates the broken web that helps recreate
the ever-changing light refraction effect of
an actual flame, minus the smoke and
combustion.
As well, Flexiglass is produced by using
panels of recovered laminated glass, that is
to say panels that are not fit for
industrial use (because of slight defects or
cracks). This works perfectly because the
first step in making Flexiglass requires…
breaking it!
Using this new material, I immediately saw
the potential for a new type of light
fixture: FLAMP. Based on my own free
sculpting of a flame, its shape is now
forever crystalized and will make a fine
addition to any home.
