Terrace is a set of 3 contemporary wall shelves whose designs reference hillside farming practices employed in mountainous regions of the Far East and South America. The shelves aim to be functional art, with the ‘terraces’ carved from the wood to form sweeping contours that impart a striking, sculptural elegance. Their designs introduce a new aesthetic typology that offers a compelling and novel alternative to standard shelf form factors, which are often flat and linear. The use of terraces also creates 'platforms' at different heights, which allow objects to be displayed in a unique way.

Founded in 2018, Studio Hemal Patel is a young, fresh, London-based design practice with big ambitions of designing and redefining the material world in a progressive, holistic way. By pursuing our ethos of 'forward leaning, divergent thinking problem solving' we employ a rigorous research and development framework that allows us to create beautifully crafted, intelligent products and experiences. Our approach is driven by a deep desire to celebrate materials and processes, and to create products that initiate a positive emotional user response.
