In cases such as crossed eyes or lazy eye, one eye needs to be closed for a period to allow necessary corrections. An eye patch is typically used to limit the vision of one eye, but it can appear unattractive. Instead of an eye patch, a darkening lens can be used. This lens blocks 100% of the light entering the eye, effectively reducing vision in that eye better than an eye patch. In other words, it causes temporary blindness, which is what medical professionals aim for.
